Happy Retirement

n most countries of the world when a person reaches the age of 65 they often retire from their place of work (voluntarily or are forced). In many companies it's a special day for that person and the company holds some kind of celebration — usually a party. The retiree receives some kind of gift (or gifts) from the company and co-workers. The cliché of the retirement "gold watch" might still hold true.

What to give as a gift creates a problem for many co-workers and company officials. In many cases the employee is one of hundreds and not much may be known about the person. (This is a one reason using Gyftit's social network would help to narrow down ideas for presents.)

Retirement often means special family gatherings as well. So what should you give him (or her) as they end their working days and join the growing population of retired, but still active, seniors?

First, you can give retirement wishes. There are so many out there. Here are 10 suggestions taken from the following site: ventanawinds.com These are perfect if you don't know what to write. Feel free to go to their extensive list and choose others.

  1.  Think about it, now you never have to ask for a day off again. Happy Retirement!
  2.  Happy retirement wishes! Wishing you all the best in your new retired life.
  3.  All the best for an amazing retirement! Enjoy your new chapter in life, where you become your own boss.
  4.  As one chapter ends, another begins — welcome to your new found freedom!
  5.  When someone as wonderful as you finally gets to retire it makes my heart melt! Congrats and all the best to your relaxing years ahead!
  6.  Are you ready for that golf trip you were always telling me about? Enjoy your golf retirement!
  7.  You will always be remembered for your accomplishments. Thank you for your years of hard work and dedication to our team, and congrats on your retirement!
  8.  Retiring means less responsibility and “almost” no work. Please let me know if you need help finding things to do, my garage could use a once over, ha ha ha! Congrats (insert name)!
  9.  Now that you’re retired you can do all the things you enjoy. Have a happy retirement!
  10.  Now that you are retired, what are you going to do with all of that free time? I could fill up your Tuesday’s with coffee and gossip? What do you say? Enjoy yourself out there!

We must also assume that at this stage in life most people have everything they need, except perhaps money, so a money gift may not be a bad idea. They now will have time to do things that were postponed and put on hold when they were working. A cruise vacation would be a nice (albeit rather expensive) gift, but the whole family could chip in. If they are into sports, a variety of gift suggestions are out here. They can be given season tickets to sporting events, gym memberships and golf club memberships, just to name a few.
